Who makes all the decisions in your home? New research commissioned by Gumtree has found that it’s the women who call the shots when it comes to key decisions.
The researchers found that women have more say on topics such as where to live, what names to give newborn babies and where to go on holiday.
Women are also more likely to take charge when decorating, choosing a pet, setting the household budget and deciding where to spend Christmas.
Men, on the other hand, are more likely to be the main decision maker when it comes to choosing a car, completing DIY and household maintenance tasks and driving abroad.
‘It seems that overall, the traditional stereotypes of men buying the cars and women looking after the home are still as true as ever,’ says Sam Diamond, head of brand and communications at Gumtree. ‘But I’m sure there are blokes out there interested in the décor of the home as well as keen female motorheads.
Diamond continues: ‘While it’s perhaps not surprising that men take on DIY and motoring decisions and women more home and furnishing decisions, it is important that both genders have a say.
‘Sometimes in a relationship if you know you can rely on one another to get things done, it makes life just that little easier.
‘And even when it’s down to buying or choosing an item for the home – it’s good to be able to trust someone to make a choice you’re both happy with.’
